About Dental Health Services Victoria  

Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) was established in 1996 and is the leading public oral health agency in Victoria. We aim to improve the oral health of all Victorians, particularly vulnerable groups and those most in need. DHSV is funded by the State Government to provide clinical dental services to eligible Victorians. 

We help to provide Victorians with quality oral healthcare through The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne (RDHM) and by purchasing dental services for public patients from more than 50 community health agencies throughout Victoria. 

About the role: 

The Oral Health Advisor, School Dental Program is instrumental in influencing and improving the oral health outcomes of Victorian children by providing expertise, advice and clinical leadership for the Victorian School Dental Program. The role partners with the Director, School Dental Program Implementation in co-designing, testing and evaluating the new school dental model of care from proof of concept through to full program implementation across Victoria.

The role works collaboratively with the Program Team with shared accountability for facilitating improved oral health outcomes and enhanced experience for clients and consumers utilising the principles and practices of value-based health care. The Oral Health Advisor is expected to maintain their clinical skills through general oral health practice duties. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • In collaboration with the Chief Oral Health Officer and the Director, School Dental Program Implementation , develop a school children model of care utilising the principles and practices of value-based health care and ensuring an enhanced experience for clients and consumers. 
  • Advise the Director, School Dental Program Implementation on a clinical governance structure and strategies to embed DHSV’s clinical leadership framework within the School Dental Program. 
  • Develop a standard set of evidence informed clinical pathways that is codesigned with consumers which reduce variation in service delivery and improves the client experience 
  • Work collaboratively with the School Dental Program Team during the proof-of-concept development and evaluation phases and to prepare the model of care for Statewide expansion

 A bit about you: 

  • You will be a registered and practicing Dentist or Oral Health Therapist with relevant postgraduate qualifications 
  • Proven experience in clinical leadership within a public health care setting 
  • A track record in managing innovation and change with new models of care in a clinical setting 
  • Significant experience in leading and driving change/process improvement initiatives and involving a diverse range of stakeholders including executive level 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of value-based health care with extensive knowledge of key market drivers, industry players and latest developments in the health industry
