About the opportunity

The pivotal role of the Melbourne Gateway Facility (MGF) Operations Lead will lead a diverse operations which includes Domestic and International Operations. The Operations lead will work very closely with the Facility Operations Manager to steer the processing and delivery operations within the processing site, which operates on a 24-hour schedule. The primary focus will be the PM operations which services AP's premium product Domestic Express Post and International Outbound processing. The Operations lead responsibility extends to both day / night operations in which a level of flexibility will be required for this role dependent on additional shift focuses. Each shift is managed by experienced AO5's ( Operations Supervisors ) that will provide support to the Operations Lead.

The core objective of this role is to provide assistance to the Operations Manager in the Operations Lead aims to facilitate cost efficiency, safety standards and driving key results during the PM Shift and throughout the day.

What you'll deliver with us

The Operations Lead undertakes the crucial task of maintaining compliance standards, working closely with the Operations Manager to ensure adherence to these benchmarks during the 24-hour operation. However, their impact is not limited to adherence alone; the role actively supports and drives changes aimed at managing costs and nurturing network and operational innovation using LEAN methodology and viewing the operation with a Continuous Improvement lens.

The role is aimed at optimising the utilisation of automation assets and the streamlining of parcel processing operations. This optimisation drive primarily caters to the efficient functioning of Express Post and International services. In essence, the Operations Lead's role constitutes a linchpin in the realisation of a cohesive, innovative, and efficient operational framework within the Melbourne Gateway Facility, ensuring seamless operations around the clock.

You'll also

  • Support the execution of facility communication plan
  • Management of staff allocation within the operational shifts and ensure the availability of equipment needed to complete work
  • Manage and lead change within a consultative framework.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with delivering value from an asset base and operating budget at the Melbourne Gateway Facility.
  • Engage, influence and secure active support from all key stakeholders to deliver business outcomes, including managers, employees, unions, contractors and community
  • Lead a culture within across the operational shifts that fosters the One Australia Post approach, focuses on safety and wellbeing and puts the customer at the forefront of all activities and decisions within the Melbourne Gateway Facility

About you

You are a Safety focused Logistics guru with a strong focus on continuous improvement where you can implement your initiatives across efficiencies within a processing operation site. You have sound verbal and written communication skills that allow the opportunity for you to lead by example by empowering your team around you.

You'll also have

  • Supply chain / Logistics experience is highly preferred but not essential
  • Exposure to LEAN methodology and Continuous Improvement strategies
  • Experience leading a large and complex team
  • Exposure to Tech / Automation
  • Demonstrated experience in driving results within a processing facility
