About St John Paul II College
St John Paul II College (JPC) is a Catholic, co-educational secondary school serving families in the north of Canberra. At JPC, we strive for excellence in teaching so that our students are offered every opportunity for success in their learning. Teachers at JPC are provided structured professional learning opportunities including a focus on offering students an excellent education through the implementation of the Science of Learning as expressed through Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn’s ‘Catalyst’ program.
By joining JPC you will benefit from recent changes to our timetable including an increase in explicit teaching time and focus on routines to maximise student engagement. Staff are located in Faculty-based staffrooms to promote a focus on the delivery of quality teaching and learning programs. All staff have access to Flourish, a system-wide dedicated People Wellbeing Program offering in-time support.
St John Paul II College is part of the Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn (CECG), which operates Catholic Systemic Schools and nine Early Learning Centres
across ACT and NSW.

About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and committed person, to join our community as a Health and Physical Education teacher commencing in Semester One 5.
Teachers at JPC work with leaders in the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning and including content knowledge, teaching methodologies, classroom management, assessment and reporting, and professional development within their subject area. They also support student wellbeing through creating safe and inclusive learning environments where all students can flourish.

Create a learning environment that stimulates learning promotes excellence and accepts and acknowledges the needs of students to be both challenged and supported. Use a variety of teaching and learning techniques to meet individual needs. Provide timely and useful feedback about completed assessment items for students. Communicate in a clear, respectful, and professional way to optimise each student’s development. Plan, prepare, record, and evaluate work to be undertaken by classes. Communicate with parents in written reports and parent-teach interviews and at other times as required. Help enable the best use of shared resources. Work with colleagues to review and develop the curriculum and write course documents. Undertake regular professional development, such as reading and attending courses, for the development of knowledge and skills on a personal basis, to consider current developments relevant to the needs of students and the requirements of the curriculum. Keep abreast of knowledge and curriculum development in teaching areas as well as current developments in educational thinking. Contribute to the professional development of other staff members.Qualifications
Bachelor of Teaching or Master in Teaching Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) and/or Working with Children’s Check (WWCC) registrations. Teaching Quality Institute (TQI) registration and/or NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) accreditation.Selection Criteria
A thorough knowledge of the Australian Curriculum with the ability to organise, select and design content for effective teaching and learning. Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage positively with colleagues, students, and parents. The capacity to be a proactive member of a professional learning community complying with the legal, administrative, and professional requirements. Classroom practices and organisational skills that create supportive and safe environments for all students, including meeting a variety of learning needs. A comprehensive understanding of assessment and reporting strategies and the need to provide effective and timely feedback to parents and students.
