About the role 

The Senior Governance & GIPA Officer ensures the efficient and effective operation of Council's governance processes, including compliance with legislative requirements, management of delegations, and public access to information under the GIPA and privacy legislation. 

This role leads a team of Governance Officers, oversees the review and alignment of governance policies, manages large-scale governance projects, and provides expert advice on governance-related matters. Additionally, the position is responsible for statutory reviews, stakeholder liaison, and ensuring Council’s compliance with risk management frameworks while promoting continuous improvement and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance and delegations framework support the effective governance of Council
  • Manage the review and alignment of governance policies and procedures and provide advice on service improvements arising out of policy reviews
  • Oversee the access for information applications under GIPA and lead internal reviews, analysis and processing of applications
  • Oversee the maintenance of Council's relevant databases, reporting systems, registers and information made publicly available
  • Consult and liaise with relevant external stakeholders
  • Lead and manage the Governance Team and engage cross-functional stakeholders to successfully deliver services and achieve optimal outcomes from governance activities

About You 
The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree qualifications in business, policy, local government discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in governance management in local government or equivalent experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Government Information (Public Access) Act and other legislation relating to the provision and protection of information
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a politically sensitive environment
  • Proven research and analytical skills
  • Possess a high level of interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and stakeholder management

What’s on offer
We are offering an attractive remuneration from $125,996.69 to $138,699.50 plus 11.5% superannuation.

City of Parramatta plans to hold interviews for this position in mid-December with an expected start date for the successful candidate in January 2025

The successful candidate is required to be vaccinated (at least 2 doses of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine) in accordance with Council's vaccination policy. Candidates may submit a medical contraindication for Council's consideration.

This position requires the preferred candidate to undergo a Criminal History Records check. A criminal history does not necessarily disqualify a prospective candidate from selection.
