About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Governance and Risk Officer to provide strategic leadership and oversight of our governance, legal, and risk functions. This role is part of our Senior Leadership team and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing our organisation-wide governance, organisational policy, safeguarding, risk, assurance, and compliance frameworks.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leading diverse teams and managing complex projects, with extensive experience in legal, governance, and risk management in a large organisation. They will also possess excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to develop reports, briefing papers, and other documents accurately and in short time frames.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Frameworks: Ensure that our compliance and delegations frameworks support the effective governance of our organisation and meet all statutory requirements.
  • Risk Management Framework: Lead the development and implementation of a Risk Management Framework and a strategy to develop the risk maturity of our organisation.
  • Compliance Framework: Develop and implement a Compliance Framework.
  • In-House Legal Services: Provide high-quality in-house legal services, including legal advice on regulatory compliance, property, business structure, acquisitions, employment litigation, corporate governance, and privacy.
  • Internal Audit Function: Oversee the internal audit function, including reporting to the Audit, Risk, and Insurance Committee.
  • GIPA and Privacy Functions: Deliver GIPA and privacy functions to our organisation.
  • Safeguarding Function: Oversee our safeguarding function.
  • Strategic Plan Implementation: Ensure the successful implementation of our Strategic Plan and Community Strategic Plan within their team.

About You:

  • Degree Qualification: A degree qualification in legal, governance, and/or risk management (or related field).
  • Experience: Extensive experience (7+ years) in legal, governance, risk management (or related) in a large complex organisation, with a proven track record of achieving strategic objectives.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated (5+ years) experience in leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Senior/Executive Experience: Proven track record at a senior/executive level in governance, legal, risk management, or compliance planning and managing projects.
  • Councillors/Executive Team Experience: Extensive experience working with an Executive Team and Councillors or similar governance structure.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate, build relationships, and influence others with an engaging approach and technique.
  • Presentation Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to develop reports, briefing papers, and other documents accurately and in short time frames.
  • Analytical Approach: Analytical approach to interpreting data and communicating insights.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Advanced problem-solving and decision-making ability, including confidence working with leaders to resolve high-priority, often sensitive, and complex issues and conflict.

  • Remuneration: An attractive remuneration package from $212,961.19 to $236,198.28 plus 11.5% superannuation.
