About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Chief Governance and Risk Officer to join our Senior Leadership team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and direction of the City of Parramatta Council's governance, legal, and risk functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective governance frameworks that support the City of Parramatta Council's legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive Risk Management Framework, driving the organization's risk maturity forward.
  • Create and maintain a Compliance Framework, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and standards.
  • Provide high-quality in-house legal services, offering expert advice on regulatory compliance, property, business structure, employment litigation, corporate governance, and privacy matters.
  • Oversee the internal audit function, reporting to the Audit, Risk, and Insurance Committee, and ensure the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan and Community Strategic Plan within their team.
About You

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • A degree qualification in law, governance, risk management, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience (7+ years) in legal, governance, risk management, or a related field in a large complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proven track record at a senior/executive level in governance, legal, risk management, or compliance planning and managing projects.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence others and build strong relationships.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and communicate insights effectively.
