About the Role

This role is part of our Senior Leadership team, responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and direction of our governance, legal, and risk functions to ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement governance frameworks to support effective council management and adherence to statutory requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a Risk Management Framework and strategy to enhance organizational risk maturity.
  • Establish a Compliance Framework and oversee its implementation.
  • Provide high-quality in-house legal services, including advice on regulatory compliance, property, business structure, employment litigation, corporate governance, and privacy.
  • Oversee the internal audit function, reporting to the Audit, Risk, and Insurance Committee.
  • Deliver GIPA and privacy functions to the council.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan and Community Strategic Plan within their team.
About You
  • Degree qualification/s in law, governance, and/or risk management (or related field).
  • Extensive experience (7+ years) in legal, governance, and risk management (or related) in a large complex organization with a proven track record of achieving strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in leading diverse multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven track record at a senior/executive level in governance, legal, risk management, or compliance planning and managing projects.
  • Extensive experience working with an Executive Team and Councillors or similar governance structure.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate, build relationships, and influence others with an engaging approach and technique.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to develop reports, briefing papers, and other documents accurately and in short time frames.
  • Analytical approach to interpreting data and communicating insights.
  • Advanced problem-solving and decision-making ability, including confidence working with leaders to resolve high-priority issues.
Salary and Benefits

We offer an attractive remuneration package from $212,961.19 to $236,198.28 plus 11.5% superannuation.
