The Opportunity

Working directly with the Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA) team across artistic, public, education and donor programs, the Communication Coordinator is responsible for implementing MUMA’s communication strategy to amplify and promote an innovative, experimental and research-based contemporary art program. The Communication Coordinator will also be responsible for developing, designing and delivering the museum’s creative strategies and promotional material to increase MUMA’s visibility, grow and generate audiences.

To be successful in this role you will have excellent interpersonal and written skills with a high attention to detail, and a proven ability to write, design and produce communications for a variety of traditional and emerging communication channels across print and digital media. Proven experience with specialist administrative, website, information management and database software applications, with proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, including Indesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro are also key to success in this role.

MUMA is one of Australia’s most respected and influential contemporary art museums. Established in 1975, MUMA has a dynamic artistic program of collecting, commissioning, exhibition-making and publishing, and is committed to connecting art, audiences and ideas.

MUMA is the custodian of the Monash University Collection, which holds over 2,600 artworks. With nearly half the Collection on public display across Monash’s Victorian campuses or out on loan to museums and galleries nationally and internationally, it’s one of the most accessible collections of post-1960s Australian art in the country, founded with the establishment of the University in 1961.

MUMA’s exhibitions, commissions and collection activity are accompanied by strong education, engagement and publishing programs. This engagement allows the Museum to exchange with diverse local, national and international audiences, artists and partners—both in-person and through the circulation of digital resources and print publications.
