While we operate across sectors for our customers, we have specific domain expertise across financial services and the broadcast sector.

Digicel Pacific is a leading telecommunications company operating in six markets: Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Nauru, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu. With over 16 years in the Pacific and serving over 3 million customers, Digicel Pacific offers a range of products and services, including the most extensive mobile coverage, broadband internet, TV, digital payments, e-commerce and ICT solutions. 

Focus of the Role

The Senior Government Relations Manager aligns with relevant internal stakeholders, Telstra International’s (TI) business objectives and corporate strategy. The role engages with relevant Australia government stakeholders (primary) and coordinates with our teams in international jurisdictions who lead engagements with local government stakeholders to support the execution of TI’s strategy.

What You’ll Do

TI provides sales and service support to Telstra's international customers.

As a Senior Government Relations Manager, you will build and maintain strategic government and stakeholder relationships to:

  • Identify issues of strategic importance to TI and advocate TI’s interests with relevant Australian government stakeholders, with a focus on the Indo-Pacific Southeast East Asia regions.
  • Manage the most material political and stakeholder issues (strategic and operations, risks and opportunities) facing TI.
  • Support government-related business development and co-investment/partnership opportunities for TI in Australia and relevant international markets, including through the provision of relevant advice on advocacy and stakeholder plans.

This is how you’ll bring the purpose of the role to life:

Internal Responsibilities:

  • Administer Telstra’s Government Relations (GR) policy in collaboration with TI) teams.
  • Facilitate regular engagement between Digicel Pacific and Telstra teams to share information and resolve government-related commercial or stakeholder issues.
  • Provide strategic advice on government activities and engagement opportunities in international markets.
  • Engage regularly with the TI Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • Prepare briefing materials for SLT, CEO Leadership Team, and the CEO’s Office as needed.
  • Support and prepare for meetings with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and other key Australian Government stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Government Relations Principal responsible for TI and Digicel Pacific, reporting via a dotted line.

External Responsibilities:

  • Represent Telstra at Australian Government stakeholder events.
  • Manage relationships with key Australian Government stakeholders of strategic importance to TI, in alignment with the Government Relations Principal.
  • Build and manage relationships with government stakeholders in international markets in alignment with TI’s strategy.
  • Participate in relevant compliance meetings and discussions with Australian Government stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A deep understanding of federal government processes in Australia, along with its foreign policy priorities.
  • Proven experience and strong interest in corporate affairs, government relations, or external affairs roles.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated resiliency and attention to detail.
  • Experience in highly regulated environments, preferably within the telecommunications or public sectors.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to operate in a dynamic, ambiguous environment.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications will be considered an advantage
