The Iconic Dymocks Flagship Store on George Street, Sydney is looking for a new General Manager to run Australia’s preeminent Book Store. This rare opportunity will see an experienced retailer take the reins on team leadership & management, driving sales performance, customer experience and operational management.

Our new Flagship General Manager will be a passionate, driven and empathetic leader, who wants to achieve through their people. This business-critical role reports directly to CEO and forms a key part of the Senior Leadership Team and will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing the store leadership team (6 direct reports) across effective rostering, people leadership, people training & development, providing feedback, driving performance and engaging with a highly casual work force.
  • Instilling a service centric, high-performing and empathetic workplace culture across a large and diverse highly casual workforce.
  • Exceeding store KPIs, across sales budget and other typical retail KPIs.
  • Analysing daily, weekly and monthly results and report findings to CEO & weekly trade meetings, in addition to on-going budget forecasts and reforecasting in line with cyclical retail and cultural events.
  • Commercially analysing store results to identify areas of strength and development along with strategies and executions plans.
  • Partnering with office support functions – Merch, IT, People & Culture, Marketing – to enhance store performance and work through issues, challenges and opportunities.
  • Providing on-going feedback to office support functions on key areas of focus for store including specific support required to ensure store exceeds its KPIs.
  • Creating and maintaining an outstanding in-store experience, from windows, instore VM, customer service, product knowledge and in store events.
  • Ensuring operational standards are always maintained across store presentation, product presentation, employee presentation, loss prevention and stock replenishment.  
  • Maximising the outcomes of national marketing programs, develop and implement local store marketing and events within style and budget settings.  

As the successful candidate you will have several years’ retail experience running flagship or large format retail operations with a large casual workforce and a track record of success.

In addition, you will have an acute understanding of KPIs and how to drive them and demonstrable experience of instilling a customer centric approach across a hugely diverse workforce. You will have a collaborative approach and be comfortable talking to the CEO and a causal team member as well as partnering with different retail support functions to elicit the best results for your store.
