**About the role**
The Manager of Central Staffing provides a key leadership role in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Mater Health Nursing & Midwifery casual workforce.
As such the role, in conjunction with the Nurse/Midwifery Manager team, has a strategic focus, as well as an operational function in providing and maintaining safe, high quality patient centred care and a culture in keeping with the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy.
**What you'll be doing**
The Manager will oversee the employment and performance of casual nursing, midwifery and agency staff to meet clinical need and is operationally and professionally accountable to the Assistant Director of Patient Flow. This role will also be responsible for the Patient Flow and After-Hours Manager team and is operationally responsible for the administrative staff within the Central Staffing office.
**Other responsibilities include**
- Ensuring efficient and cost-effective use of nursing resources within Central Staffing
- Providing reports to the Assistant Director Patient Flow as required
- Maintain and analyse statistical data relating to staffing utilisation
- Take the lead in the overall co-ordination and facilitation of recruitment and employment of nursing and midwifery staff within Central Staffing
- Identify and report on emerging trends in order to accommodate changing needs
- Participate in strategic planning to ensure all identified workforce strategies
- Initiate and contribute to Quality Improvement activities
- Monitor the work environment to identify workplace health and safety hazards
- Monitor compliance with annual performance development reviews, registration/licence renewals for all nursing and agency staff.
- Maintain currency with industrial, professional and health care advances

- Support the identification and prioritisation of improvements that ensure contemporary, cost effective, high-reliability clinical care and patient outcomes
**Service and operational outcomes**
- Actively partner with colleagues and consumers to determine service and operational objectives, that provide an exceptional experience and outcome
- Recognise and address inefficiencies in service provision, and continuously improves business processes
**Financial outcomes**
- Actively manages strategic and operational budget, resource assets and leave requirements/liabilities to deliver strong financial performance
- Contributes to strategic decision-making and operational opportunities for improved financial outcomes
**Compliance and risk**
- Manage compliance and risk, in part by ensuring direct reports fulfil mandatory and professional competency requirements, that audits are completed in a timely fashion and endorsed recommendations implemented
- Identify, report, respond to and rectifies workplace health and safety (WHS) concerns
**Interprofessional leadership**
- Effectively manages key relationships with peers and consumers across Mater
- Effectively represents, negotiates and influence colleagues and peers to continuous improve
- Collaborates in the development of policies and practice
- Ensures development and succession plans are in place and actioned for own role and those of direct reports
**Performance and accountability**
- Ensures direct reports have clear tasks and accountabilities associated with their roles and that these are communicated effectively
- Guide, coach and provide rapid, respectful, constructive feedback to direct reports
- Consistently and visibly applies the Mater Accountability framework to address inconsistencies in behaviour, practice or performance
**About you**
To be successful in this role you will possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- Tertiary qualification in health administration or management, clinical leadership, budget management and finance would be highly desirable
- 5+ years' experience in a clinical specialty; Clinical Nurse or other leadership role
- Demonstrated ability to form effective, positive relationships across the business in a fast-paced environment
- Strong work ethic, agility and willingness to role model and promote Mater values
- Comprehensive understanding of public and private health systems
- Sound knowledge of contemporary models of care and quality improvement methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical, financial and operational leadership
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Kronos, Shiftmatch and relevant IT systems
