**General Manager Reports to**:North Shore Temple Emanuel (NSTE) Board through the President and also reporting to the Senior Rabbi in nominated areas
**Position type**:Full-time, although hours could be negotiated
**Remuneration**:$90-$100k total remuneration package negotiable
NSTE is a member-based Progressive Jewish community and staff have a responsibility to service members' needs, facilitate engagement of members and volunteers, and to maintain the database as required.
**PURPOSE OF THE ROLE**
The purpose of this role is to directly and through leadership of the Office team ensure the efficient and effective management and operations of NSTE and its programs, including its financial operations.
**REPORTING TO BOTH THE BOARD AND THE SENIOR RABBI**
- Provide leadership and direction to the Office team to carry out programs and initiatives identified by the Clergy and Board.
- Provide input in the areas of membership acquisition, engagement, retention, and outreach, and support the execution of Board and Clergy initiatives in these areas.
- Help build, train, and nurture our volunteer corps, and ensure office support for volunteer led programs and initiatives approved by the Board and Senior Rabbi.
- Build NSTE's bank of documented processes and procedures, in order to facilitate handover of office responsibilities during staff leave or transition.
- Consult regularly with the Senior Rabbi and President to identify priorities.
**REPORTING TO THE BOARD**
- Provide administration and contract management for the grounds, facilities, security, maintenance, caretaking and hire of spaces
- Support policy development and implementation of work health and safety at NSTE, good governance and risk management
- Responsible for the administration and accuracy of all relevant membership related processes and procedures including administration of NSTE's database (ShulCloud) and identification of process improvement
- Responsible for the administrative aspects of HR matters, such as the drafting of contracts, job listings, and induction materials. In partnership with the Senior Rabbi and President, facilitate recruitment and training of staff.
**ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES REPORTING TO THE BOARD**
- Process accounts receivable (including following up debtors), payments from donors and accounts payable and co-ordinating biannual appeals
- Prepare financial and accounting reports where required, including processing month-end, year-end and other ad-hoc reports
- As required, support the Treasurer with budget control and analysis
- Maintain an effective filing system for all supporting accounting and finance documents, HR documents and other documentation
- Support the NSTE executive in ensuring all audit and compliance issues are met; and coordinating preparation of the annual budget and monitoring the budget
**OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES REPORTING TO THE BOARD**
- Adhere to NSTE's values and comply with NSTE's work health and safety and other policies.
- Strive to maintain a collaborative and positive office environment.
- Other duties as required that support the objectives of NSTE.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting and/or Finance or a proven sound understanding of financial management of a small/medium-sized organisation
- Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency
**COMPETENCIES**

- A good understanding of administrative, corporate governance and compliance issues such as in the areas of HR, child protection, financial administration.
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- High level demonstrated interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with an eye toward constant improvement of processes
- High level client service skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent oral and written skills
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Proven ability to meet competing deadlines and work effectively and respectfully under pressure
- IT literate (Google docs, Microsoft Office, Apple hardware)
Desirable:
- Experience in accounting, book-keeping or a similar role
- Previous experience and facility with a CRM system and with Xero would be an advantage, although training will be provided
- Experience in a not for profit organization, preferably with a membership base
- An understanding of Judaism and Jewish practices; some knowledge of the Jewish community would be an advantage
