Working within the Public Health Division, the Epidemiologist will include the provision of public health advice to Government and other government agencies, oversight of infection prevention and control activities, case contact and outbreak management support, advice around physical distancing and other health directions and the provision of public information and data intelligence.The role will work with key stakeholders to implement the transitional strategy of the Data and Intelligence function as it is integrated into Public Health division.

The Epidemiologist role provides high quality epidemiological insights and public health advice based on their knowledge, comprehensive research and analysis of data to solve complex problems for a diverse group of stakeholders. They will possess excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to liaise and negotiate effectively with key stakeholders, often in a fast paced and ever-changing environment.
Key accountabilities
- Provide high quality epidemiological insights to team leads and management based on comprehensive research and analysis.
- Analyse, transform, clean and interpret data related to COVID-19 using statistical software (either Stata or R) as well as other programs including Power Bi and excel.
- Produce regular team reporting products and proactively look for opportunities to adjust or improve these where possible.
- Provide guidance and authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders and contribute to detailed, comprehensive reports, ministerial briefs and cabinet and agency submissions on complex issues.
- Contribute to and facilitate the flow of information across the department and with key external stakeholders.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
