This is a senior position within the Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance team in the Health Protection Branch. The position provides specialist technical support, policy advice and professional guidance on epidemiological issues and projects to Health Protection Branch staff and the Chief Health Officer; and professional leadership to epidemiologists and students within the Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance team.
The position also has significant stakeholder engagement and relationship management responsibilities with respect to funded services relating to the BBV/STI program. The position manages a team of epidemiologists and project staff working in the BBV/STI disease surveillance program and has overall responsibility and oversight for the surveillance and reporting of notifiable diseases caused by Blood-borne viruses such as viral hepatitis B, C, and D, and sexually transmissible infections including HIV, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis
Accountabilities
- Contribute to the full life cycle of projects to meet departmental objectives including:
(a) Undertaking research, analysis and implementation of projects based on defined objectives and outcomes.
(b) Managing projects or sub-projects and being accountable for the successful delivery and completion of those projects/sub-projects within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
(c) Monitoring and evaluating projects to ensure departmental objectives are met.
- Provide authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders and prepare and present detailed reports, ministerial briefs, cabinet and agency submissions on complex matters.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate a partnership approach.
- Where responsible for overseeing, monitoring or delivering projects, ensure they are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation and government regulations and guidelines.
- Operate in a complex and demanding environment, exercise sound judgement, liaise effectively with senior executives and build positive relationships with key people to facilitate a partnership approach and ensure the effective operation of the BBVSTI Surveillance Program.
- Set clearly defined objectives and priorities and operate accordingly, reviewing and adjusting as required, and identify processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal.
- Provide sound judgement and authoritative advice to the Manager, Communicable Diseases Epidemiology and Surveillance, as well as the Deputy Chief Health Officer (Communicable Diseases), the Chief Health Officer and the Deputy Secretary (Public Health Division) on risks, priorities, and operational matters for the division.
- Identify opportunities for improvements to the BBVSTI Surveillance Program, and oversee and coordinate their implementation.
