**About the role**
Embedded within our Rates Operations unit, the Rates Collections team is responsible for the effective management of our rates debtors and rates collections process where holistic stakeholder account management through identifying, planning, and implementing required solutions is key. You will be the central point of contact for rates debtors seeking information and/or support for payment of their rates arrears and will ensure compliance to legislative requirements and industry best practices.
With a background in debtor collection and expertise in debt management, this position goes beyond the typical debt collection's role. It requires an empathetic approach, focused on forming connections and cultivating relationships with customers. These customer interactions have the power to transform the conversation around debt collections.

**What your day will look like**
- Assist in the timely and efficient collection of rates, charges and levies.
- Ensure that all enquiries are dealt with efficiently and courteously, whether verbally or in writing, in accordance with relevant regulations and Council policy.
- Respond to ratepayer enquiries and resolve all related issues in a timely manner.
- Outbound contact for rates debt collection purposes.
- Assist in the development and review of rates Debt Collection policies as required.
- Assist in the administration of Council's follow up procedures for outstanding rates and charges and where necessary appropriate debt collections.
- Liaise with external debt collection provider as required.
- Other duties as directed by the Team Leader Rates Collection commensurate with accountability and authority of the position.
- Prepare correspondence and documents using the desired format.

**What you will bring**
- Solid experience with a range of debt collection activities including case management.
- Relevant debt collection legislation and regulation knowledge.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills, particularly when working with customers, and the ability to actively listen to our customers.
- Demonstrated experience in managing all documents, policies and procedures, standards and specifications.
- Experience in developing strategies, thinking outside the square, and efficiency improvements.
- Experience in the Magistrates Court debt recovery process would be advantageous.
