About us
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
The Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) is an independent statutory authority established by the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1996 (the Act) to provide assistance to victims of violent crime committed in Victoria to assist them in their recovery. The Chief Magistrate is the head of the Tribunal and is responsible for the arrangement of its business. VOCAT operates at 51 venues across Victoria and maintains its principal registry in Melbourne. The Principal Registrar works closely with the Judiciary and staff to support the efficient and effective administration of VOCAT.
The Principal Registrar's responsibilities include the development of administrative procedures, performance monitoring, budget management, addressing policy issues and policy implementation and stakeholder engagement.
The Principal Registrar provides strategic advice and support to the Judiciary and executive leadership of the Court to achieve VOCAT's aims and objectives.
About you
Knowledge of the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal and related jurisdictions Work closely with and provide high level, complex and authoritative advice and support on all matters coming within the VOCAT's jurisdiction to the Judiciary and executive leadership of the Court.
Lead the development, evaluation and implementation of new policies and procedures that enhance VOCAT's operations, manage risk and assist in achieving the VOCAT's strategic and operational objectives.
Manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including court staff, the Department of Justice and Community Safety, legal practitioners, community organisations, Victoria Police and other Victorian Government departments and represent VOCAT and Specialist Courts and Programs on multi-jurisdictional or multi-disciplinary committees.
