We put the customer and our community at the centre of all that we do, ensuring our services are efficient and accessible.What you'll be doingIdentify, lead and advocate for system change and process improvements that contribute to efficient, effective and customer focussed outcomes.Lead cross-functional teams comprising relevant Council Officers and external consultants to plan and deliver projects.Provide leadership, supervision and support to staff, ensuring that work performance is monitored regularly and that regular feedback on performance is provided.Identify training and development needs, recommend and/or implement appropriate training and development.Encourage the development of a positive team culture.Ensure adherence to relevant policies and procedures including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures.Provision of guidance and/or advice related to business process and systems to statutory planning growth area staff, subdivision officers, and project officers.Appraise and counsel staff at least annually in accordance with approved procedures.Ensure staff receive regular feedback on their performance.Contribute to the coordination and the administration of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, Subdivision Act 1988 and relevant statutory process and regulations.Represent Council at forums and events where required.Develop and maintain a high level of cooperation between residents, officers, applicants and the Department.Lead the Department to provide a consistently high level of service to customers in a prompt and pleasant manner.The skills and experience you'll bring to the roleTertiary qualification in Town Planning or related discipline.Demonstrated extensive experience at a senior level in statutory planning and growth area planning with a State Government, Local Government authority or planning consultancy.Knowledge of community expectations in a growth, interface and rural community environment with a focus on facilitating mutually beneficial outcomes.Demonstrated ability and experience in supervising, leading, motivating, developing and inspiring a team of professionals.Sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills, and proven experience in dealing with a range of stakeholders.Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer service when dealing with the wider community and leading a team environment.Capacity to manage multiple projects and a complex workload.Demonstration of experience with process review and implementing change.Why Hume City CouncilA leader in local government, we're committed to creating an inclusive and collaborative work environment that is guided by our values.We're better, every day: We give things a go and value progress over perfection.
