The Australia and New Zealand Life team is seeking to appoint a dynamic individual to be based in their **Sydney** office as a **Regional Chief Underwriter**.
Your Role
As Chief Underwriter you will have an analytical mindset and reputation as a 'thought leader'. You will enjoy being pro-active in the market and building relationships/consulting with a broad range of senior insurance executives.
You will pro-actively promote change founded on evidence-based analyses and the organization's goal to achieve an underwriting profit and sustainable products. You will lead a local team of experienced technical experts and work closely with local and global Claims and Actuarial teams to deliver accurate and timely underwriting of cases and enhance Gen Re's reputation as an innovative reinsurer. Your commercial approach, exceptional client relationship skills coupled with your understanding of insurance and underwriting issues, will ensure you are known as an industry leader and trusted advisor to your clients as well as your Gen Re colleagues.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Develop and build strong client relationships and build the Gen Re brand in the Australian and New Zealand market.
- Work collaboratively across Segment, including Canada, UK and South Africa.
- Identify outdated and unfavorable underwriting practices and processes and promote change through evidence based research.
- Be a thought leader.
- Be a recognized expert in modern Underwriting.
- Lead a team of experienced underwriters
- Collaborate with Account Management, Actuarial and Claims.
- Monitor industry trends and provide insights to your Gen Re colleagues and clients.
- Participate in local and international project initiatives.
- Work closely with clients and your Gen Re colleagues to create new solutions/products.
Your Job Requirements
- Degree qualified and/or equivalent insurance qualifications.
- At least 10 years of relevant underwriting experience in a re/insurance company.
- Strong influencing skills.
- Strategic and commercial mindset.
- Excellent judgement and courage of conviction.
- Champion a results-focused collaborative culture.
- Actively promote and drive a free flow of information both internally and externally.
- Ability to make sense of complex, high quantity information to effectively solve problems.
- Strong people leadership.
- Travel is part of this role.
