**The Role**:
This isn't just any procurement job. As our Timber Procurement Specialist, you'll be at the forefront of sourcing high-quality, legal, and sustainable timber for our projects—both locally and internationally. You'll negotiate deals, build strong, lasting relationships with suppliers, and help us stay ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation, sustainability, and compliance with illegal logging legislation. A basic understanding of the **structural properties of timber** is essential to ensure we're sourcing the right material for the job, as well as helping us make informed decisions regarding quality and suitability for our projects. In addition, being able to communicate in **Mandarin Chinese** will be a huge asset, as we work closely with suppliers in China.

**What You'll Be Doing**:

- **Sourcing timber internationally**: You'll leverage your expertise to find the best timber, sourcing both locally and from trusted global suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability and legality.
- **Negotiating like a pro**: You'll secure the best deals, ensuring our timber is both cost-effective and compliant with legal standards such as FSC certification and Australian standards like AS1720 and AS1684.
- **Compliance is key**: You'll ensure our sourcing practices comply with international illegal logging laws and support our mission of responsible procurement.
- **Supplier relationship-building**: You'll foster long-term, personal relationships with timber suppliers, both domestic and international, ensuring they align with our values and sustainability goals.
- **Team collaboration**: You'll work closely with our production, logistics, and finance teams to ensure everything runs smoothly, and our timber arrives on time and within budget—because at our company, teamwork makes the dream work.
- **Market analysis**: You'll stay on top of market trends and timber price fluctuations, helping us forecast demand and stay competitive.
- **Environmental impact**: You'll advocate for sustainability, ensuring we maintain certifications like FSC and PEFC, and contribute to a healthier planet.
- **Mandarin communication**: You'll use your Mandarin language skills to communicate effectively with suppliers in China, helping to streamline negotiations and ensure smooth international operations.

**What We're Looking For**:

- **Experience & passion**: You've got 3+ years of experience in timber procurement, purchasing, or a similar field, and you're passionate about sustainability and responsible sourcing.
- **International expertise**: You have experience sourcing timber internationally, understanding the complexities of global supply chains and working with suppliers from different countries.
- **Industry knowledge**: You're familiar with timber products, supply chains, and most importantly, illegal logging legislation—FSC certification and Australian standards such as AS1720 and AS1684 and beyond.
- **Basic understanding of timber properties**: You possess a basic understanding of the structural properties of timber and how to assess its suitability for different construction and manufacturing purposes.
- **Mandarin language skills**: You are proficient in speaking Mandarin Chinese, helping to facilitate communication with our suppliers in China and enhance our international procurement process.
