The Position:
The Town of Walkerville currently has an exciting opportunity for a Planning Officer to join the team.
The Planning team is seeking a motivated and energetic person to participate at an intermediate skill level in the legislative, administrative, planning, policy, and functional processes necessary to achieve a high quality of development that is appropriate to the urban context and responsive to the interests and needs of the community.
This position would suit a person with 2-3 years of experience within the development assessment field.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a committed person to join a friendly and energetic team.
Key Responsibilities
Receive development applications, including responsibility for customer contact, tracking, and word processing of letters and approvals, for compliance with the Planning and Design Code and satisfying service standards and legislative timeframes in accordance with the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
Provide general advice in relation to interpretation of policy and legislation.
Support Senior staff in exercising the powers, duties, and functions of Council.
Undertake other related duties including project and administrative work as required.
Undertake and complete Section 7 searches within legislative timeframes.
Responsible and accountable for adequately managing the official records created and received according to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
Undertake and complete any projects or other duties associated with the position as directed by the Manager or CEO.
Exercise the powers, duties, and functions of Council as delegated.
Contribute actively to organizational and team customer service initiatives.
Follow defined occupational health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures related to the work being undertaken to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.
Essentials for the job:
A recognized qualification in Urban and Regional Planning.
High degree of personal integrity and ability to handle matters confidentially.
Ability to work autonomously and be self-motivated.
Community-minded and engaging.
