**About the role**

As the Workers Compensation Specialist, you are integral to the success of V/Line's People, Risk, Safety and Sustainability Group.

Reporting to the Head of Workplace Relations, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating workers compensation activities. This role emphasises building collaborative relationships with Workcover agencies, insurers, leaders, and staff to facilitate effective case management.

The specialist will oversee all active workers' compensation claims within the organisation, addressing both administrative and strategic aspects.

Key accountabilities include:

- Advising and guiding leaders on effective workers compensation management to minimise organisational impact.
- Coordinating and overseeing compensation claims for V/Line, ensuring all administrative requirements are met.
- Communicating with staff about claims, entitlements, and changes to employment conditions.
- Reviewing and concluding long-term claims, balancing individual welfare and organisational needs.
- Leading investigations, mediation, and appeals to represent V/Line's interests effectively.
- Collaborating on return-to-work plans to prioritise returning injured workers to active duty.

**About you**

You are a proactive and empathetic individual, passionate about getting the best outcome for both employees and the organisation. You are highly organised, with a keen eye for detail and exceptional time management skills.
- Previous case management experience, ideally within a work cover or insurance field
- Excellent knowledge of workers compensation legislation and insurer requirements.
- Understanding of injury management and rehabilitation practices.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, with a focus on early intervention and return to work.
- Strong customer service focus, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
- Excellent administrative skills and ability to work autonomously
- Demonstrated alignment with V/Line's values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
