OverviewOperations Manager (Automation & Transformation) reporting to the NSW Distribution Centre Manager.
Focused on delivering the Vision2025+ strategy and evolving the transport and supply chain operating model.
Responsible for the operational execution of NSW Distribution Centre operations as the site transitions from manual warehouse online fulfillment and store replenishment to a semi-automated operation, including inbound putaway, replenishment, online fulfillment (automated), store replenishment and cross dock of vendor products pre-picked for stores.
The operation will consolidate vendor flow through deliveries and support import processing to ensure cost-effective product availability, high service levels and operational excellence for omnichannel customers.The role supports current operations while monitoring emerging trends across transport and supply chain to keep the business ahead of the curve.What your day looks likeOversee end-to-end warehouse operations including inbound, storage, picking, packing, dispatch and returns.Leverage emerging capabilities to support customer and commercial targets.Define clear Standard Operating Processes with end-to-end exception management, aligned across the business, supported by SLA KPIs and reporting.Ensure optimal performance of automated systems (e.g., AutoStore - GTP, conveyors, robotics) and the WCS/WMS integration.Lead a safety-driven DC with a focus on employee well-being, ensuring compliance with site safety protocols.Understand automation methodologies to optimise inventory and coordinate with automation providers for maintenance and support.Document AS-IS processes and drive optimisation with key performance metrics.Plan and implement improvements in operational delivery, efficiency and brand/product requirements.Manage profitability through budgeting, cost control and productivity improvements.Develop the DC team across roles (Managers, Supervisors, Team Managers) with training and development plans.Participate in automation testing during implementation to ensure system effectiveness.Utilise data to identify opportunities for commercial efficiency and optimise critical paths.Manage inventory allocation and flow to support end-to-end operational efficiency.Meet service level, sustainability and financial targets and support transformation programs aligned with Vision 2025+.
Act as a key contact for internal and external stakeholders on asset performance, service, maintenance and issue resolution.Support business continuity plans and preparation for peak periods.Identify inefficiencies and lead Lean or Six Sigma projects to improve workflows.Collaborate with IT, engineering and supply chain teams on system improvements and new technology rollouts.Analyse operational data and trends to inform strategic planning and daily decision making.What you'll need to thriveCustomer-centric thinking and approach.Experience leading an automated warehouse for online fulfillment and store replenishment (retail, omnichannel, e-commerce and multi-brand warehousing preferred).
Experience in an automated distribution centre with knowledge of automation and inventory interdependencies.Strong safety leadership and governance knowledge (PCBU requirements).
Experience leading large teams (100+) and building high-performing teams up to leadership level.Experience delivering Continuous Improvement programs (CI) through teams/direct reports.Experience in commercial operations management, including annual budget planning and active cost/productivity management for a DC.Creative problem-solving and collaborative cross-functional working style.Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building.Digital fluency and knowledge of supply chain and automation.Experience integrating Tier 1 WMS and WCS systems.Strong analytical and financial acumen along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.Why David JonesOur purpose is to "inspire like no other" within a thriving culture.
