Job Description

About the Role

Are you ready to launch your career in construction project management?

We're looking for an Associate Project Manager to support the delivery of a national portfolio of retail and infrastructure projects — including rebuilds, format upgrades, and equipment rollouts.

This role sits at the heart of Ampol's Construction team, working directly with senior Construction Project Managers who oversee complex, multi-site capital works programs across Australia. You'll gain hands-on experience across every stage of the project lifecycle — from early planning and budgeting through to execution, reporting, and project close-out.

As an Associate, you will support strategic and operational delivery, managing smaller rollout programs independently while assisting with tasks on larger, high-value projects. This includes learning to navigate governance, stakeholder engagement, commercial controls, and safety compliance in a highly regulated environment.

This is a rare opportunity to develop under experienced leaders while contributing to work that shapes the future of Australia's leading retail network.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support the CPM team in delivering complex, multi-site construction projects on time, on budget, and to quality standards.
  • Manage smaller rollout programs with defined scope, applying sound project management principles under CPM guidance.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling, including resource coordination, progress tracking, and document control across multiple workstreams.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders such as Property, Operations, HSE, Finance, and regulatory authorities to support seamless delivery.
  • Monitor contractor performance, escalating issues to CPMs while supporting scope and risk management.
  • Champion safety and environmental compliance, helping to embed a zero-harm culture across all sites.
  • Prepare clear project reporting tools, including status updates, dashboards, and risk logs for senior review.
  • Participate in post-project reviews, capturing lessons learned and contributing ideas for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

About You

You're an emerging construction professional who is ready to step into a role where you can grow into a future CPM. You'll bring a solid foundation of project management principles and a willingness to learn at pace in a national, multi-site environment.

Essential:

  • 2–5 years' experience supporting or delivering construction or infrastructure projects, ideally in retail, fuel, QSR, or other multi-site settings.
  • A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or working towards completion).
  • Knowledge of core project management skills — scheduling, budgeting, contractor coordination, and risk awareness.
  • Proficiency in tools such as MS Project, SAP, Excel (Power BI or Altus experience a plus).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work across diverse stakeholder groups.

Desired:

  • Ambition to progress into a full CPM role through mentorship and hands-on experience.
  • A collaborative mindset, with curiosity and a drive to develop into a well-rounded project leader.

Additional Information

Why Join Us?

Launch your project management career on a national stage. You'll be mentored by Construction Project Managers and the National Construction Manager, to gain end to end lifecycle exposure, and own smaller rollout programs as you grow, building real capability in governance, stakeholder engagement, commercial controls and safety in a highly regulated environment. Your work will directly support a national retail and infrastructure program that matters to communities across Australia.

At Ampol, we back emerging talent with hands on learning, structured development, and recognition for high performance, so you progress from support to independent project ownership with confidence and the right guardrails.
