Primary objective

Lead the Wellbeing Services team in developing and implementing strategic initiatives that enhance workforce resilience, mitigate

psychological risks and promote mental health across the Northern Territory Police Force and Northern Territory Fire and

Emergency Services.

Context statement

Wellbeing Services is a multidisciplinary team providing 24/7 support to foster mental health and resilience across the NTPF and

NTFES. The unit delivers psychological support, crisis intervention, psychometric assessments, peer support, pastoral care and

other wellbeing initiatives to help mitigate psychosocial risks and improve workforce wellbeing.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead and manage the multidisciplinary Wellbeing Services team to ensure the effective delivery of evidence-based support

services, including psychological, emotional and rehabilitative programs for NTPF and NTFES personnel and their families.

  1. Develop and implement strategic initiatives, policies and training programs to enhance workforce resilience and mitigate

psychological injury risks.

  1. Build and maintain stakeholder relationships across NTPF and NTFES, government agencies and external providers to enhance

service delivery and ensure compliance with governance and regulatory requirements.

  1. Represent the NTPF and NTFES at national wellbeing and mental health forums, contributing to policy development and

advocating for workforce wellbeing priorities at sector-wide level.

  1. Oversee the coordination and continuous improvement of specialist programs, including the Early Intervention Program,

Employee Assistance Program, Peer Support Program and Honorary Chaplain Network.

6. Provide high level advice to leadership and other key stakeholders on wellbeing trends, emerging risks and best-practice

intervention strategies to support mental health in the NTPF and NTFES workforces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven leadership and operational management experience in a multidisciplinary team, particularly in delivering wellbeing,

health or psychological services within a complex organisational setting.

  1. Practical, contemporary knowledge of mental health risk mitigation, trauma-informed care and critical incident management

with experience developing and implementing workforce wellbeing strategies.

3. Highly developed stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills with the ability to develop collaborative partnerships across

diverse sectors.

  1. Demonstrated ability to oversee governance, compliance and reporting requirements, ensuring evidence-based service delivery,

program evaluation and data integrity.

5. Strong communication and advocacy skills with experience in high level reporting, ministerial briefings, policy development and

sector-wide representation.

Desirable

1. Postgraduate qualifications in psychology, human resource management, project management or a related discipline.

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the functions and issues relevant to the NTPF and NTFES.

1. Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, occupational therapy or a related field, with full registration with the relevant

professional body (e.g. AHPRA, AASW).

  1. Proven leadership and clinical management experience in a multidisciplinary team, particularly in delivering evidence-based

psychological interventions within a complex organisational setting.

  1. Expertise in trauma-informed care, mental health risk mitigation and critical incident management with experience in providing

clinical assessments and intervention strategies.
