The Section
The Commemoration and Visitor Engagement (CVE) Section is part of the Public Programs Branch. The Section delivers the Memorial's visitor experience across commemorative, interpretive and visitor service platforms. The Section comprises four teams; Visitor Services, Education, Events & Ceremonies, and Last Post Ceremony.
The Team
The Education team is made up of nine ongoing staff, up to 30 casuals and approximately 8 volunteers. Approximately 125,000 school children visit the Memorial each year with the majority undertaking a facilitated program. Many more engage with the Memorial remotely via virtual excursions, webinars and the DVA supported Memorial Box program. The team may also deliver after-hours tours for visitors to the Memorial.
The Role
The Education Assistant Manager works closely with the Education Manager to ensure school-aged visitors to the Memorial have an engaging, safe and valuable learning experience. The Assistant Manager assists in the overall operational management of the development and delivery of onsite interpretive gallery programs to school groups and general visitors, and of outreach programs including online resource material, virtual excursions, and the Memorial Box loans program.
Activities include: onsite and web-based program development and delivery; recruitment; training of staff and volunteers; project management; and contributing to and implementing strategic direction for Education in accordance with the Memorial's corporate priority to enhance the understanding of Australia's experience of war and its enduring impact on Australian society.
Core Responsibilities
Under general direction:
- Contribute to the management of Education operations including onsite school-aged learning, and public programs. This includes budgets, bookings and staffing, project task allocation and supervision, and stakeholder liaison.
- Supervise the development of digital resources and virtual excursions in accordance with the Memorial's mission and Australian Curriculum requirements.
- Develop, deliver and evaluate onsite and virtual programs and resources.
- Participate in Education strategic planning and outcomes evaluation and coordinate the marketing and promotion of education products.
- Assist in project development and delivery; scoping, resourcing, and reporting relating to sponsorship proposals and projects.
- Represent the Memorial where appropriate in both internal and external forums.
- Contribute to the overall operations of the broader section
Additional requirements:
- Commitment and ability to work outside core business hours, and on weekends, public and school holidays, including for the delivery of the Anzac and Remembrance Day national commemorations.
- A current ACT Government Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
Position Eligibility
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to AWM that are offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a National Police Check, even if they currently hold a security clearance. The check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements
