Yur'iinkin (Bail Response Program)

The purpose of the Yur'iinkin (Bail Response Program) Program is about reconnecting young people and healing young peoples' connections to themselves and others. The initiative responds to the needs of young people who are "at risk" of entering into or involved in the Youth Justice System including those young people who are repeat / recidivist offenders with complex needs, to provide support to them and their kin and/or family members and where possible to reconnect through collaborative case management, diversionary programs and tailored activities . Support is also available to young people in contact with the Queensland Police Service / Youth Justice Co-Responder Team (CRT) through the Youth Engagement Practitioners, a component of the Yur'iinkin Program.

The role

The Community Connector supports young people and families facing complex challenges by providing short-term, practical help and connecting them to relevant services. It involves coordinating appointments, making warm referrals, ensuring services are delivered, and following up to support engagement. The position works closely with Kurbingui's Bail Responces Program (BRP) after-hours team, youth services, and external partners like police, detention centres, and corrective services. A key part of the role is maintaining strong communication with all stakeholders, offering general support to young people, and handling necessary administration and reporting.

Community Connector are required to work on a rotating shift roster including evenings and weekends.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL

• Identify as an Aboriginal & or Torres Strait Islander person.
• Qualifications in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Behavioural Science, Social Science, Health, Youth Work, Community Services or relevant field.
• An extensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and protocols and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society.
• Demonstrated experience in bail support and crisis response, specifically with young people, including complex trauma-based behaviour management, case management, and referral pathways.
• Knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire technical understanding of relevant legislation and regulations; specifically Youth Justice and Child Safety.
• Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate information on a range of services and referral pathways available for young people and families specific to their circumstances. Including accommodation, counselling, family support, legal, education, employment, drugs and alcohol.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and coordinate own workload.
• Effective communication, administration, database entry and report-writing skills.
• You'll possess a Positive Blue Card (WWCC)
• IT & Systems capability, particularly in using HRIS Software, CRMs and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Queensland Driver's License & ability to travel

DESIRABLE

• Knowledge of local community protocols and established community connections within the Moreton Bay geographical catchments
• Experience in collaborative program arrangements with relevant agencies, other service providers, and key stakeholders.
• Facilitation skills or willingness to develop these skills through formal and informal training
• You'll have thorough understanding of Standard of Care Frameworks, Child Protection Act and Social & Emotional Wellbeing best practice.
• You will be highly desirable for your previous experience in the Not-For-Profit sector
• You have extensive experience in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Culture & Communities

Pay: $44.58 – $47.97 per hour
