The Office of Information Management (OIM) is responsible for information management and related information and communication technology (IT) to enable the Department to achieve its strategic, tactical and operational goals through the right IT governance and correct information and technology controls.

We are currently seeking a Coordinator, Radio Communication to join our team.

Under broad direction, the Coordinator, Radio Communication, this position:

  • undertakes necessary research and development, technical planning and design of the Department's statewide radio and wireless communications network (including satellite) and associated infrastructure and systems;
  • integrates radio communications with digital systems (including IP networks) for maritime, aeronautical and terrestrial operations and develops complex technical solutions;
  • develops technical projects and modifications from design to completion within agreed timelines;
  • advises on technical aspects of system development and integration (including requests for changes, deviations from specifications, etc.) and ensures that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied correctly;
  • develops test plans and test scripts to check load generation and will then oversee the implementation of the plans and scripts;
  • provides specialist technical expertise with respect to IT networks and radio engineering and contributes to the strategic planning for all associated telecommunications;
  • is responsible for the Department's IT network and ensures the design and implementation of the computer network for the Department is completed in the most effective and cost efficient manner;
  • contributes to associated improvements to telecommunications procedures, processes and systems.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total.

  • Working experience in exploring various possibilities and assist in generating innovative open standard based solutions related to radio communication engineering. Including work experience in the following:
  • extensive technical knowledge of contemporary radio engineering (including satellite) and associated telecommunication systems, practices, service planning and delivery;
  • in-depth knowledge and application of radio and telecommunications Act's and associated Australian engineering standards; and
  • demonstrated experience in applying compliance requirements for related standards (such as Radio Communications Act 1992 and Telecommunications Act 1997) in all aspects of system design and commissioning.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply lateral thinking to contribute ideas and solutions in a complex environment, utilising best practice principles, methods and processes related to contemporary radio communication issues.
  • Working knowledge of open service-orientated architecture methods; industry standard security frameworks (for example: ASD Essential 8, ASD ISM, NIST Cyber Security Framework, ISO/IEC 27000-series) and IT service management practices (for example: ITIL); project methodologies and IT system development lifecycles.
  • Qualification in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field.
