THE ROLE
Mechtric is seeking an experienced Technical Sales Representative – Industrial Automation to join our Victorian operation.
This role offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise with sales and business development to support existing customers and grow our footprint across Victoria and Tasmania.

IDEAL REQUIREMENTS
To be successful in this role, you should ideally possess the following:
Qualifications
- An Electrical Engineering degree, diploma, or a suitable electrical trade qualification.
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in an external sales or business development role within the industrial automation sector.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in technical support covering:
- Solid practical knowledge of PLCs, VSDs, HMIs, and servo systems, including programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Experience providing technical support to customers — assisting with product selection, application advice, and resolving technical issues.
- Ability to translate technical requirements into commercial solutions and collaborate effectively with engineering and sales teams.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus.
Sales & Customer Management
- A strong network of potential customers in the greater Melbourne area.
- Demonstrated experience with new customer acquisition strategies, sales call planning, CRM-based sales administration, and sales pipeline management.
- Proven ability to:
- Conduct effective sales calls that result in increased sales of industrial automation products.
- Identify and develop new customers through structured business development activities.
- Prepare and manage quotes, orders, and follow-ups efficiently.
- Work collaboratively with Mechtric VIC team members to meet and exceed customer expectations.
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent IT proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook) and confidence working remotely with a laptop.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, well-organised, and passionate about industrial automation technology.
RESPONSIBILITIESBusiness Development
- Work with the State Manager to implement business development strategies aimed at acquiring new customers and expanding existing accounts.
Customer Engagement
- Develop strong relationships with Electrical Contractors, Switchboard Builders, System Integrators, OEMs, and Strategic End Users across Victoria and Tasmania.
Customer Understanding
- Gain a detailed understanding of each customer's business, processes, and technical requirements to identify how the Mechtric product range can deliver value and efficiency.
Technical Support (Pre & Post Sales)
- Provide technical support to key customers throughout the sales cycle, including product selection, specification assistance, programming, commissioning advice, and on-site troubleshooting where required.
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams to resolve technical or application issues and ensure successful project outcomes.
Solution Development
- Assist customers with specifying suitable components and integrating automation and control solutions into their systems and equipment.
Quoting & Sales Execution
- Prepare, present, and adjust customer quotations and proposals to secure orders and maintain profitability.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Mechtric Head Office and national product managers to ensure customer requirements are met efficiently — from order processing through to after-sales support.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
