We're looking for a passionate and experienced Head Chef to lead our kitchen team at The Perch, a destination restaurant nestled in the Otway Ranges on the iconic Great Ocean Road.

This is a unique opportunity to take creative control of a produce-driven kitchen that celebrates seasonal, locally-sourced, and sustainable ingredients. As Head Chef, you will play a key role in shaping the culinary direction of the restaurant and delivering a dining experience that reflects the character and richness of our natural surroundings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, from food prep and plating to team leadership and supplier relationships
  • Design and deliver seasonal menus inspired by local produce and sustainable practices
  • Lead, train, and inspire a high-performing kitchen team
  • Maintain consistent food quality, presentation, and portion standards
  • Monitor food costs, stock levels, and kitchen budgets to ensure profitability
  • Uphold the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and OH&S compliance
  • Work collaboratively with the front-of-house team to ensure a seamless service experience
  • Foster strong relationships with local growers, farmers, and producers

Key Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent
  • Food Safety Supervisor certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • First Aid certificate (desirable)

Experience:

  • 3–5+ years in a senior kitchen position, preferably as Head Chef or Sous Chef
  • Proven team leadership and kitchen management experience
  • Confidence working with seasonal, local, and foraged ingredients
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen budgeting, costing, and stock control

Skills:

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Creative and innovative approach to menu design
  • Calm, professional, and efficient under pressure
  • Strong commitment to cleanliness, quality, and guest satisfaction
