The Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC) represents the Traditional Owners of the Groote Archipelago. The ALC is a 'future-forward' Land Council, directed by the 14 clans of the Groote Archipelago region, enabling the Anindilyakwa people to take full advantage of the opportunities and technology available in the 21st century, while simultaneously preserving land, language and culture.

The ALC functions to ascertain and express the wishes and opinions of the Anindilyakwa people as to the management of the land and sea in the Groote archipelago region, protecting the interests of the Traditional Owners, assisting in the protection of sacred sites, assist the Anindilyakwa people in traditional land claims, negotiation with persons desiring to obtain an estate or interest in the land, assist Traditional Owners in carrying out commercial activity, and supervise and provide administrative and other assistance for Land Trusts holding Indigenous land in the Groote archipelago region.

About the role:

The ALC is seeking a full-time Accounts Payable Officer to join our Finance team located in the Cairns CBD. Reporting to the Financial Accountant, the Accounts Payable Officer will be responsible for processing invoices, maintaining manual and electronic finance records, preparing reports and information required for audit purposes, completing monthly supplier statement reconciliations and other finance tasks as directed by the Financial Accountant.

Prior experience is accounts payable is not essential. We welcome applications from individuals who demonstrate an aptitude for working with numbers, a high level of attention to detail, and an understanding of deadlines and established processes. Whether you're looking to build your skills or bring existing experience to the role, you'll be joining a team of Accounts Payable Officers who are supportive and collaborative—providing opportunities to learn and grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately process invoices and payments in line with established procedures.
  • Maintain manual and electronic finance records.
  • Assist with monthly supplier statement reconciliations.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for audit purposes.
  • Support other finance tasks as directed by the Financial Accountant.
  • Ensuring appropriate confidentiality of information is maintained at all times.
  • Completing ad-hoc reporting as required.
  • Undertaking the responsibilities of the position adhering to ALC policies and procedures, WHS legislation and requirements and all other legal requirements.

Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • Aptitude for working with numbers and strong attention to detail.
  • Understanding of deadlines and ability to follow established processes.
  • Demonstrable experience with the Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate MS Excel experience.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrated capacity to remain focused, positive and organised in a challenging work environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to manage and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have the ability to work as part of the finance team and perform tasks to agreed time frames.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, including the capacity to communicate effectively with Indigenous people and other stakeholders.

Desirable

  • MYOB experience, including creating and uploading import files to the bank.
  • Demonstrable extensive accounts payable experience.

What's on offer?

  • Remuneration ranging from: $50,000- 70,000 per annum depending on experience.
  • Annual leave: 5 weeks per annum.
  • Personal Leave: 18 days per annum.
  • 2 weeks paid Christmas/New Year shut down - in addition to annual leave.
  • Salary Sacrifice ($18,500 per annum).
