We are seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant with a strong background in payroll and accounts payable to join our finance team. This role involves managing end-to-end payroll for 100+ employees using Employment Hero, ensuring compliance with Australian regulations, and overseeing supplier accounts and payments in Xero.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to grow their career. CPA/CA accreditation support will be provided to the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll (Employment Hero)
  • Process weekly payroll for 100+ employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review and correct payroll reports, resolving discrepancies as required.
  • Communicate with employees on payroll queries, including timesheets and entitlements.
  • Coordinate with managers to verify overtime and production hours.
  • Upload and validate payroll data in Employment Hero, ensuring correct and on-time payments.
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations and process back payments.
  • Assist with submitting payroll tax and superannuation lodgments to relevant authorities.
  • Assist with year-end payroll reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support HR with administrative tasks (e.g. recruitment, onboarding, reference checks)
Accounts Payable & Finance (Xero)
  • Process supplier invoices, purchase orders, and payments in Xero.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and investigate variances.
  • Ensure compliance with approval processes and company policies.
  • Assist with month-end accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of payroll and AP processes.

You'll Bring
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in financial accounting, payroll, and reporting.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • CPA/CA qualified or actively progressing towards certification (support provided).
  • Hands-on experience with Employment Hero (payroll) and/or Xero (accounting) highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables); Power BI an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
