What's the brief?

We're looking for an experienced HR Manager to step into a 14-month fixed-term role, covering a parental leave absence at a well-known Australian retailer. Leading a team of HR Business Partners and an HR Advisor, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining continuity and driving best-practice HR with a strong emphasis on employee relations and compliance. With a handover period built in on either side, this is a fantastic opportunity to make an immediate impact in a fast-paced retail environment.

Is this your perfect match?

You'll thrive if you're an HR generalist with deep employee relations expertise and a background in complex, high-volume industries like retail or hospitality. You're confident managing serious ER cases, comfortable partnering with senior leaders, and skilled at translating legal processes into practical, digestible advice. If you enjoy leading a team, building capability, and working closely with operational managers to ensure compliance and performance, this is your role

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and coach a team of HR Business Partners and an HR Advisor
  • Oversee and advise on complex ER matters including terminations, bullying, harassment, and discrimination cases
  • Provide guidance on legal claims and Fair Work Commission processes
  • Deliver capability training for managers
  • Ensure award compliance through regular audits and reporting
  • Partner with leaders to drive alignment between people and business goals
  • Communicate people processes and outcomes clearly and effectively to all stakeholders
  • Work closely with the HR Operations team to ensure smooth delivery of people initiatives in the business
  • Contribute to ongoing process and compliance improvements across the HR function

Your toolkit

  • Proven HR leadership experience, ideally within retail or hospitality and knowledge if relevant awards
  • Strong employee relations expertise, including serious and sensitive cases
  • Hands-on experience with Fair Work legislation and Commission processes
  • Confidence managing legal claims and advising on strategy
  • Skilled at delivering capability training and practical ER workshops
  • Track record of building trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to coach and mentor HR team members to build confidence and capability
  • Strong business partnering approach with commercial acumen
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex issues
  • Comfortable working at pace, balancing strategy with day-to-day delivery
