What is the focus of the role?

As an HR Advisor, you provide support to the organisation's leaders and employees (which may include subsidiary and related companies) in a specialist area of HR, such as case management. You support a high-performance culture by working closely with the business in supporting HR and people related matters at both a tactical and strategic level. Your knowledge of HR policies, processes and employment obligations means you are an integral contributor to the delivery of people processes and initiatives that support our business objectives.

What You Will Do

People, Culture, and Communications - Wellbeing Employee Services oversees Telstra's wellbeing and workplace relations programs.

The HR Advisor will work closely with People Leaders and key stakeholders, providing expert guidance and support in case management.

Your deep expertise in HR policies and procedures as well as our employment agreements means that you provide support and coaching to our people leaders to drive improved performance and behaviours consistent with our values. You also provide an objective view in investigations to achieve the right outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage complex HR issues with deep understanding and knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Manage high risk and complex employee matters including Whistleblower investigations, internal dispute resolution, and redundancy appeals.
  • Provide expert advice to people leaders to support management of employee issues, including conduct management, workplace investigations, performance management, employee health and absence issues; and discrimination, bullying and harassment matters.
  • Represent the organisation in unfair dismissal matters at the Fair Work Commission and tribunals.
  • Actively participate in cross-HR management projects, recognising issues that may have an impact on the business unit and/or the wider Telstra.
  • Identify opportunities to partner with other PC&C Teams to achieve the best possible people outcomes.

About you

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in HR Case Management. Proven ability to handle complex and sensitive HR cases with discretion and professionalism. Must be adept at applying company policies, labour laws, and best practices to resolve employee relations issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated Coaching and Mentoring Skills. A track record of successfully coaching team members and stakeholders at various levels. Able to provide constructive feedback, foster professional growth, and support performance improvement initiatives.
  • Strong Stakeholder Management and Case Resolution Expertise. Skilled in building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Capable of navigating challenging conversations, aligning expectations, and driving resolution in high-stakes situations.
  • Exceptional Communication Abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively. Comfortable presenting to diverse audiences and facilitating discussions that lead to actionable outcomes.
  • Advanced Problem-Solving Capabilities. Analytical thinker with a proactive approach to identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions. Able to manage ambiguity and make sound decisions under pressure.
