Retail Buyer

Initially established and incorporated in 1997 in Sydney Australia, now operating as AWC Australia ('AWC'), the company is a fully licensed wine export consolidator and wine retail buying service for international retailers.

AWC Australia has evolved as a provider of exclusive products and portfolios from boutique wine producers from a large diverse number of regions in both Australia and Italy, directly to importers and retail groups in Asia.

Forging strategic supply chain partnerships with major internationally renowned wholesale and retail businesses including Dairy Farm International, Metro AG, and Walmart, as well as a number of other locally owned retail organisations across Asia, has been the key to AWC's success in the Asian Region.

Across the Asia region, wine category development, although still fragmented, continues to require assistance to develop, as interest in wine expands among local consumers.

The AWC Retail Buyer plays an important role working with its key established strategic partners in different countries, who employ AWC to assist with their wine [and now food] category development and purchasing. The AWC Retail Buyer must select and buy the required goods for resale in each of its strategic partner's retail establishments.

The AWC Retail buyer contributes AWC's commitment and expertise in the identification and procurement of exclusive brands, analysis of sales data towards purchase requirements, merchandising strategies, marketing ideas and staff training. The Retail buyer plays an integral role in the overall relationship within our partnerships carrying out the myriad of duties listed below.

The AWC Retail Buyer will work closely under AWC's CEO and owner who, with the rapid expansion of the company is focused on business strategy and growth.

Retail Buyer – Duties:

• Fulfilling a purchasing plan/strategy for AWC Clients' retail operations

• Analysing the product sales and product inventory to determine AWC Clients' imminent and future product requirements

• Monitoring the wine market as it grows in the Asia region and analyzing sales data and
  stock levels as well as examining market information to keep abreast of changing
  market conditions

• Sourcing specific products based on particular Retail client's individual needs (based
  on analysis conducted of internal sales data collected)

• Identifying, evaluating, sampling and determining optimal category product mix

• Selecting products and managing direct importation to Retail clients of products into
  Asia from Australia and Italy

• Purchase planning according to Retailers need and budgetary requirements and
  anticipating consumer trends.

• Knowledge of the Wine Industry in Australia and Italy as well as the Asian market
  consumption trends

• Negotiating business contracts and detailing purchase requirements for wine and
  food product with distributors domestically and internationally

• Developing and implementing pricing, promotion and marketing strategies with
  Category Managers within Client Retail establishments.

• Liaising with management staff and external third parties

• Reporting to Client Category Managers and Executive Management on retail buying
  targets and results as well as formulating long term sales plans.

• Implementing management decisions associated with the retail buying department
  and its purchasing capacity

• Travelling to and working closely with clients Category Managers to build working relationships.

Skills Required:

• Relevant qualifications in Business, Finance or Management

• At least three years of relevant experience buying or selling for a retailer or retail
  group (not including forward facing retail sales experience) including project management, strategic planning (sales forecast), relationship management, marketing management, negotiation.

• Excellent numerate, computer and communication skills

• Proficiency in English and Italian at a commercial level

• High level of self-motivation

• Capability to travel for work

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 – $80,500.00 per year
