The NSW Department of Education is delighted to invite applications for the position of Principal of Medowie High School. This is a rare and rewarding opportunity to lead the establishment of a brand-new school and to shape its vision, culture, and curriculum from the ground up. Medowie High School will open its doors to Year 7 students at the beginning of Term 1, 2027.

Medowie High School is in Port Stephens on Worimi country, within a vibrant semi-rural community. As a member of the Port Stephens Principal Network, the school will work in close partnership with partner schools and the Youyoong LAECG to ensure strong cultural connections and community engagement.

Recognising the unique and complex nature of opening a new school, the successful applicant will commence in Term 1, prior to the completion of the site. During this period, the Foundation Principal will play a pivotal role in recruitment, consultation, planning, and community engagement to ensure the successful establishment and opening of the school.

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Strong, visible and innovative leadership, focused on inspiring and building capacity of staff and community members through a strategic inclusive approach, to improve educational outcomes for students.

2. Demonstrated leadership of student wellbeing and inclusive education across the whole cohort of diverse learners.

3.Proven ability to lead high expectations and build a positive and cohesive school culture to drive continuous improvement aligned to the Plan for Public Education.

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. Please view information on the Classification structure for Principals at

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2026.
