- Join a high performing team to play your role in shaping the Australian economy
- Build your analytical skills and understanding of the Australian financial system and economy in a team with a strong focus on coaching and development
- Permanent opportunity with hybrid working arrangements
Your team
A stable financial system is crucial to the welfare of the Australian people. Financial Stability Department advises the Governors, Board and Council for Financial Regulators on risks to the stability of the financial system and produces the Financial Stability Review.
You will join the Households, Businesses and Credit (HBC) team, which focuses on the financial health of households and businesses. To shape its advice, HBC analyses large unit record datasets on loans, households and businesses, liaises with lenders, and works closely with other departments and agencies. The team is highly engaged and there are many datasets and policy-relevant issues waiting to be explored.
Your role
You will play a key role in the RBA's work to contribute to financial stability. You will work closely with your manager to shape your and your teams' work program, lead and collaborate on projects, and coach more junior staff (as appropriate). Working in HBC offers an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the financial resilience of Australian households and businesses, and the implications for the financial system and economy.
It also is a great opportunity to use and develop your strong analytical skills, while answering fascinating questions that help to shape our assessment and policy. You will also gain exposure to other parts of the RBA, APRA and other agencies.
Your role will include:
- analysing and interpreting a broad array of data and information to identify and answer policy-relevant research questions, in collaboration with other teams across the RBA
- forming an assessment of the risks to financial stability originating from the household and/or business sectors, and drawing out any implications for monetary policy and macroprudential policy
- briefing the RBA's senior executive on new data and developments
- developing your leadership capabilities, such as by coaching more junior staff
We have scope for this opportunity to be at a Senior or Lead Analyst level, depending on experience.
Your background
We are looking for motivated and engaged analysts at a senior or lead level of experience with a strong interest in policy-relevant work in a collaborative environment. To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Strong critical thinking and technical skills, and a sound theoretical framework.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.
- The ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate productively with others, and to work independently as required.
- A degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field, preferably an honours degree or higher
- Experience in using microdata for research or policy work is desirable, but not a prerequisite for the role
Be More
Working for an organisation that truly makes a difference to the people of Australia, we can offer development and career opportunities in a collaborative environment that supports your growth, wellbeing and promotes flexibility. Your individual growth and success drives the RBA forward as an organisation. Be more means you can do more, for yourself and for Australia.
Why RBA?
The RBA makes an important contribution to the Australian economy through the pursuit of national economic policy objectives and associated activities in financial markets and banking. We also issue Australia's banknotes and operate infrastructure critical to the payments system, all of which contribute to the welfare of the Australian people. Made up of specialists across a wide range of fields, our people, values, and culture play a critical role in achieving our objectives. Striving to be Open & Dynamic, we consider and incorporate different perspectives, work across teams and are transparent with each other, whilst delivering quality together effectively and focusing on outcomes by prioritising, testing, learning, and refining as we go. Our people conduct themselves with a high degree of integrity, while striving for excellence in the work they perform and the outcomes they achieve. We encourage intelligent inquiry and we treat one another with respect while promoting the public interest through our efforts. We know it is the growth and success of our people that drives the RBA forward. Come and make a bigger contribution while you build and develop your own skills too, because being more means you can do more, for yourself and for Australia.
The Reserve Bank of Australia is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion through key initiatives. We welcome and encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse background, those living with a disability and from the LGBTQ+ community.
