The Economic Analysis Department is seeking a Lead Analyst with experience in economic forecasting, macroeconomic modelling and time series econometrics. You will work as part of the Structural Analysis and Macroeconomic Modelling section (SAMM) to help shape the Bank's use of models in providing policy-relevant analysis to the Governors and the Board.

The Role
As a Lead Analyst in the Economic Analysis Department, you will work with other members of SAMM to provide analytical and strategic guidance on policy-relevant issues. A key focus of this role is providing advice on and developing the Bank's suite of star variable models. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of the Bank's MARTIN macroeconomic model and use it to generate analytical insights that inform policy decisions.
Your background
We are looking for a passionate individual to join the modelling brains trust of the RBA. In this role, you will balance the application of economic theory and empirical methods to solve real-world problems under practical constraints.
Given the nature of the work in SAMM and the specific role, you will ideally have:
the ability to work with large-scale economic models to develop and communicate relevant insights;
demonstrated ability to identify important policy questions, and design and carry out analysis to answer them efficiently and effectively;
demonstrated experience in applied time series econometrics (particularly error-correction and state-space models) and/or working with a full system macroeconomic model (such as a DSGE, OLG or CGE);
the ability to work in a self-directed manner;
the ability to produce of high-quality briefings and analysis on a wide range of topics;
strong organisational skills and the ability to judge what issues are most important and to reprioritise quickly as circumstances change;
stakeholder engagement skills together with an ability to work collaboratively with other sections in the Bank and communicate effectively with peers at government agencies and academia;
relevant tertiary qualifications in economics or finance, strongly favouring post-graduate qualifications;
demonstrated coding skills in one or more of Eviews, R, Matlab or Python.
