About the role:
Are you a motivated and commercially savvy Legal Counsel looking to make an impact? Join our dynamic in-house legal team and work closely with the General Counsel as well as Collections, Workout and Credit teams. You will provide practical and strategic legal support across loan documentation, security arrangements, recovery processes and compliance matters, playing a key role in supporting our company's growth and operations.
What you'll do:
- Prepare and lodge caveats and manage mortgage and caveat registrations with land registries
- Support Collections and Workout teams with legal and compliance queries and AFCA responses
- Assist with debt recovery and enforcement processes, including mortgagee repossessions, and winding-up applications
- Draft legal correspondence, pleadings, and affidavits
- Conduct legal research and prepare matter summaries and present to our internal legal team
- Liaise with borrowers & legal representatives
- Preparation of matters for hearing, mediation, and negotiation, including gathering evidence and working on strategy with the team
- File management
- Compliance and risk management
- Engage with external law firms where required
- Settlement discussions and alternative dispute resolutions
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree
- Admission as a solicitor in Australia with a current practicing certificate
- Strong knowledge of loan documentation, security arrangements and enforcement processes
- Excellent drafting, analytical and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in clear, simple language
- Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
