The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.
What Will You Do?
In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Facilities and Fleet team. This role ensures ALS offices across NSW and the ACT are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose, while also overseeing fleet maintenance and management. It involves building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including property and service providers, to support effective service delivery.
- Facilities Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of ALS facilities, ensure properties meet safety and occupancy codes, conduct regular inspections, manage maintenance, and engage external contractors.
- Lease and Procurement Support: Assist in sourcing new properties, review lease agreements, liaise with landlords, and implement cost-saving measures through improved procurement and energy efficiency.
- Fleet Management: Manage ALS fleet operations, including vehicle security, WHS compliance, provider coordination, travel logistics, and usage monitoring to ensure safe and efficient transport.
- Travel Coordination: Support staff travel by managing vehicle use, flight and accommodation bookings, ensuring compliance with ALS policies, and maintaining accurate travel records.
- Administrative Support: Assist with system development, invoice processing, budgeting support, and financial reconciliation related to facilities and fleet operations.
- Stakeholder & Team Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, support WHS initiatives, and promote ALS values through professional, culturally safe practice.
Who Are We Looking For?
A highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be able to demonstrate:
- Proven experience managing building leases, service contracts, and contractors, with strong knowledge of building regulations, maintenance, and compliance.
- Skilled in project planning, budgeting, and timelines, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently across multiple office locations.
- Sound understanding of fleet management and WHS practices, with experience working with fleet providers and ensuring safe, compliant workplaces.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and deliver high-quality customer service.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with experience in account management, invoicing systems, and meeting reporting deadlines.
- Desirable: Identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, experience in working for an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation or NFP. Skills and experience in accounts payable and invoicing systems, fleet management, account management and a building industry trade qualification or project management training/qualification.
Why Join Us?
At ALS, you can discover a fulfilling career that truly makes an impact in the community. We also offer our staff a range of generous benefits including:
- Not-for-profit salary packaging to reduce your tax burden, which means you get to keep more of your hard-earned money in your pocket
- Annual leave loading of 17.5%, ensuring that you are rewarded for your time off and can enjoy a well-deserved break.
- Career and professional development opportunities
At ALS, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of safe recruitment practices. Therefore, it is essential that candidates either possess or have the capacity to obtain a current and valid Working with Children (NSW) or Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) check for this role.
