About the Role

The Credit Verification Officer plays a crucial role in the credit application process, being responsible and accountable for the efficient delivery and thorough verification of credit applications. This involves ensuring that all information provided is genuine, accurate, and meets the required standards for credit assessment.

The officer is empowered to instruct and liaise with various parties, including members, external third parties, and internal departments, operating within their delegated authority to ensure credit applications are processed efficiently and in line with both internal and external service level agreements. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of compliance and risk management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and examine all collateral security offered, assessing its value, legal implications, and member exposure to other financial institutions to ensure it provides adequate coverage for the credit granted.
  • Thoroughly evaluate and examine all supporting documentation to ensure it aligns with the submitted loan application, following up on any outstanding items or actions required to support the processing of the application.
  • Instruct internal and external parties, as necessary, to prepare and issue enforceable and accurate credit contracts and related documents.
  • Provide acceptable and professional levels of representation for Teachers Mutual Bank Limited at all times, adhering to corporate standards when interacting with members, internal departments, and third parties.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication channels to foster positive, profitable, and ongoing relationships with members, internal stakeholders, and third parties.
  • Update and maintain all pertinent records, ensuring accurate information is consistently recorded within Teachers Mutual Bank Limited's core banking platforms and/or relevant records management systems.
  • Comply with all relevant policies, procedures, and industry standards, including but not limited to EEO, FSR, WH&S, COBCOP, NCC, Privacy, Discrimination & Harassment, and Workplace Bullying.
  • Adhere to the authorities and restrictions of the role as determined by essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate ownership and management of risk and compliance across all work activities.
  • Apply knowledge of the Risk Management Process in decision-making to create and protect value for the business.
  • Identify and report complaints and incidents in a timely manner.
  • Apply knowledge of the Three Lines of Defence Risk Management and Assurance Model to deliver effective risk and compliance governance.
About You

Skills and Qualifications:

  • FSR Tier 2 Accreditation, or willingness to get accreditation.
  • Completion of competencies and Cert IV in Financial Services (or willingness to complete as part of required training).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the home loan application process.
  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of credit reports, taxation records, and financial statements.
  • Understanding of acceptable security and valuation requirements.
  • Familiarity with the National Consumer Credit Protection Act and EFT Code of Conduct.
  • Knowledge of government legislative requirements, including fees, charges, and identification requirements.
  • Understanding of various state/national initiatives (e.g., First Home Owners Grant schemes, first home loan deposit scheme).
  • High-level analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members, internal departments, and third parties.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft applications, particularly Excel and Word.
