Why NSW Treasury?
NSW Treasury is the NSW Government's principal whole-of-government financial and economic adviser. NSW Treasury has a strong commitment to developing First Nations teams and individuals as part of our work to Close the Gap, under our Reconciliation Action Plan and with our First Nations Advisory Committee and First Nations staff network.
With Economic Partnership a key focus for Closing the Gap, NSW Treasury is providing sector wide leadership on economic policy and frameworks to support genuine partnerships between government and Community to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NSW. Your leadership at this critical time will help us better drive outcomes across the state.
Treasury provides advice to inform budget decision-making; manages the State's principal financial assets and liabilities; identifies opportunities for economic reform, monitors and forecasts the economy and state revenues, monitors the performance of its commercial agencies; and advises on performance and financial management policies.
The team and the purpose of the role
The First Nations Economic Wellbeing branch, part of NSW Treasury's Centre for Economic Evidence, works to embed First Nations rights, interests, and perspectives into government decision-making. The team leads initiatives such as expenditure reporting, investment and prosperity frameworks, and the State of the First Nations Business Sector report, while supporting Treasury's commitments under Closing the Gap.
As Director, you will lead this strategic work program, providing high-level, evidence-based advice to Treasury leadership and government. You will foster respectful relationships with First Nations communities, champion cultural capability across Treasury, and represent the agency in cross-government forums to improve economic outcomes for First Nations people.
