WorkCover is entering a new chapter, with a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership guiding our organisation's 2030 Strategy. Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and participating in the CISO Group Leadership Team, we are looking for a leader for our newly established Data Office. In this role you will establish industry-leading data governance frameworks, policies, and standards that deliver strategic business outcomes and enable informed decision-making across the organisation. You'll drive our vision to be the best workers' compensation insurer while making a positive difference to people's lives.
This role is hands-on and influential, requiring deep expertise in data governance and management from initiation through to completion. The scope encompasses comprehensive data governance frameworks, data quality management, and enabling data-driven decision making across the enterprise.
You'll also play a vital role in uplifting data capability, mentoring teams, and driving maturity across data practices. As the central escalation point for data governance, you'll foster trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, business leaders, and data partners to navigate complexity and deliver outcomes.
You'll also contribute:
- Leading the Data Office team to deliver on strategic objectives and data-related programs
- Driving data governance excellence, balancing comprehensive frameworks with practical implementation
- Coaching and mentoring data professionals, uplifting capability and building a culture of data literacy
- Working across the business, partnering with leaders to align data governance with strategy
- Own the big picture including data governance planning, prioritisation, risk management and resource optimisation
- Champion data lifecycle management, quality improvement, AI analytics, and sensitive data protection
- Establish data management accountability structures and enable correct decision-making behaviours
- Oversee development of data flows, system lineage, and metadata management
- Evaluate and implement data governance tools integrated within data pipelines and platforms
It's a diverse, influential role - perfect for a collaborative and outcomes-focused data leader who thrives in complexity, brings people together and drives purposeful data transformation that delivers meaningful outcomes.
A bit about you:
- Seasoned data governance leader with extensive experience in large, complex organisations. Deep expertise in data governance frameworks, data quality, and data security, with a track record of turning strategy into measurable business and customer outcomes.
- Led multidisciplinary data teams across various environments - bringing clarity to complex data landscapes and lifting capability through structure, coaching, and strong performance culture.
- Confident engaging senior and executive stakeholders, providing clear reporting and governance, and building trusted relationships across the enterprise.
- Commercially astute, applying sound judgement to manage budgets, optimise resource use, and lead vendor relationships.
- Navigate ambiguity with confidence, manage risk proactively, and drive outcomes with a pragmatic, solution-focused approach.
- Care about team culture. Foster inclusive, high-performing environments where people feel empowered to grow and succeed. Committed to building capability, embedding best practices, and driving continuous improvement.
- Qualifications include a degree in business or related field, with strong understanding of data management frameworks and principles (including DAMA). Experience with data governance platforms (Informatica, Erwin, Collibra, Oracle EDQ) is desirable, along with background in insurance or highly regulated industries.
