Data Governance Officer (Two Vacancies)

The Role: We are seeking two Data Governance Officers to join our Technology division. You will play a crucial role in establishing and supporting our Information Management Program, implementing and administering the data governance framework. Your work will involve creating practical controls to mitigate data risk and ensure data integrity across Auto & General.

Your New Team: You'll be joining the Governance, Risk, Information Security, and Controls (GRISC) department within our Technology division. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supporting the development of the information management program.
  • Develop and document new and existing data governance and information management policies, standards, and guides.
  • Proactively engage with business stakeholders to promote data governance and information management.
  • Provide support for data management/governance initiatives, such as data cataloguing, data profiling, and data quality assessment.
  • Engage and support data owners, data custodians, and data users by promoting data issue management processes and best practices.
  • Support Data Owners & Custodians in the creation and curation of Business Glossaries and Data Catalogues.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to develop metrics and dashboards for information management.
  • Support and educate employees on data management and governance procedures.
  • Monitor and update data dictionaries and metadata to ensure data consistency.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the data governance framework.
  • Assist in providing the organisation with an understanding of critical data through the business glossary and data cataloguing.
  • Maintain or administer data governance processes and/or procedures.
  • Assist in reporting on the progress of the initial rollout, including uptake, compliance, and effectiveness.
  • Assist in performing compliance checks.
  • Proactively identify risks and recommend actions to avoid, mitigate, or accept risks.
  • Actively identify and escalate data-related issues and risks.
  • Promote a sound risk culture by routinely analysing, avoiding, mitigating, or accepting risks.
  • Contribute to A&G's commitment to adhering to the regulatory framework overseen by APRA.
  • Assist with the identification and assessment of operational, financial, and reputational risks.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a robust risk management framework.
  • Support the monitoring and reporting on key risk indicators and compliance metrics.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote a strong risk and compliance culture.
  • Maintain awareness, understanding, and compliance with Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High-level understanding of data governance and Information management concepts such as the DAMA DMBOK framework.
  • Experience in Data Management and Data Governance Tools, such as Alex, Alation, Collibra, or Informatica.
  • Understanding of (or eagerness to learn) regulatory requirements related to data privacy & data risks, including but not limited to CPG235 and Australian Privacy Principals.
  • An understanding of the financial services operating environment and products (general insurance).
  • Highly desirable: Experience working with these accountabilities with a related APRA regulated industry player.
  • The ability to interrogate databases to understand the quality and meaning of the data (SQL or other tools).
