Position InformationNowra Public School is situated on Dharawal Country in central Nowra. It occupies two distinct sites for K-2 and 3-6 students respectively. The school is a vibrant learning community and draws from a diverse community with an enrolment of approximately 500 students. In addition to mainstream classes, the school also has six support classes catering to a variety of student needs. Aboriginal students make up approximately 33% of the student population and there is a strong focus on ensuring Aboriginal culture and history are taught in every classroom. The school is well resourced and has a highly skilled and enthusiastic staff who are committed to supporting all students to "Aim to Achieve" in all aspects of school life. There is an equal emphasis on explicit teaching and student wellbeing, supporting students to become active and resilient learners. Over the past three years, the school has benefited from differentiated support and has commenced an exciting transformation journey focused on evidence informed practices and aided by targeted professional development for staff.
Selection CriteriaApproval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Visible, visionary and consultative leadership with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to genuinely engage with the entire school community
- Proven success in leading, inspiring and coaching staff, including executive, teaching and non-teaching staff, to enhance a culture of high expectations for staff performance and student achievement
- Ability to strategically lead continuous improvement through a focus on research and data, evidence-based strategies and evaluative thinking
- Attainment of tangible improvements in student outcomes through building authentic connections and collaboration with parents, community, and external agencies that establish productive educational partnerships and promote the profile of the school
High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis.
