Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin.

Job Description

-The Health and Hygiene Officer will provide services and support the execution of key occupational health and hygiene processes at the operation, by providing support to the Site's Occupational Health Superintendent as well as the broader Site Safety and Health team.

The role will support injury management, fitness for work and medical surveillance programs, management of workplace health exposures, occupational hygiene sampling plan and risks and health and wellbeing promotional and prevention activities and programs. You will have:

  • Assist with injury management, workers' compensation, and Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme assessments; escalate high-risk cases as required.
  • Coordinate occupational hygiene sampling programs, fit testing, and wellness activities.
  • Support drug and alcohol testing program, including supply management and overflow testing.
  • Maintain accurate health records, case notes, and ensure confidentiality.
  • Prepare monthly health and safety reports; enter data into systems (e.g., Isometrix, ChemAlert).
  • Respond to health and hygiene queries and escalate when necessary.
  • Manage inventory of first aid and testing equipment; process invoices and purchase orders.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with site health requirements and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

-To be successful in the role you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a Health Sciences related area of study such as Occupational Therapy/ Nursing/ Physiotherapy or Occupational Hygiene
  • Demonstratable experience working in the field of occupational health and hygiene, preferably in Queensland coal mining
  • Demonstratable knowledge of legislative requirements relating to health in Queensland Coal Mining industry, including the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme and Recognised Standards applicable to health and hygiene
  • Demonstratable knowledge of health risk management principles and implementing continuous improvement

Your proactive approach, proven management experience, demonstrated leadership ability to deliver exceptional results, strong interpersonal skills and commitment to Zero Harm will be the key to your success in the role.
