The Executive Officer directly supports the Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner to fulfil his functions and responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth).
The Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner further strengthens Australia's efforts to address modern slavery by providing an independent pillar to Australia's response. For more information about the Commissioner please follow the link here:
As part of a small team, the Executive Officer will work closely with the Commissioner and other staff on a range of duties, including:
- managing the procurement of services through Commonwealth processes
- managing the annual budget of the Commissioner's Office and related financial reporting
- assisting with the Commissioner's year-round engagement in Senate Estimates processes
- assisting the Commissioner and senior leadership on policy initiatives and modern slavery research
- managing a portfolio of modern slavery policy issues
- leading or supporting the development of other strategic projects as directed by the Commissioner
- providing strategic advice and day-to-day support to the Commissioner and Directors on operational and policy matters
- managing employees performing diverse tasks and supporting the performance and culture of the team.
How you can help us make a difference
The ideal candidate will be able to use their experience in Commonwealth Government policies and processes to support the Commissioner in fulfilling his duties under the Modern Slavery Act. They will need to demonstrate drive and initiative and be able to manage high workloads under tight timeframes. An understanding of modern slavery policy is also highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will have:
- strong communication skills, including the ability to liaise widely and develop productive working relationships in the Department and with external stakeholders
- strong time management skills, including the ability to prioritise workloads and meet tight deadlines
- ability to lead streams of work to a high quality, working independently and demonstrating accountability for outcomes
- sound judgment, common sense and ability to exercise discretion, particularly in relation to sensitive information
- willingness to adapt to feedback and appetite to strive for continuous improvement
- ability to cope in a high-pressure environment and implement self-care and resilience strategies to effectively manage busy periods
- demonstrated calm, flexible, friendly and professional approach.
