New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.

About the role

As Superintendent - Open pit Mining, you will oversee mining operations, including drill and blast, load and haul activities. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of mining and haulage operations to ensure an efficient and safe mining operation achieving and optimising production in line with short and medium term mine planning and identifying improvement opportunities for optimisation of all related activities enabling NPL to meet its long- and short-term business objectives.

Focus remains on achieving productivity and cost targets by motivating and empowering your team, driving accountability, and modelling high performance. Success will come from overseeing daily operations, maintaining quality standards through inspections and records, and ensuring safe execution of production plans. You will monitor and adjust schedules to meet goals, ensure compliance with industry regulations, and deliver efficiency and cost-effectiveness. You will collaborate closely with Mine Planning, Geology, and Mobile Maintenance teams to drive operational improvements, improve fleet availability, and coordinate maintenance. Together, you'll implement strategies to maximise utilisation and minimise downtime.

Your curiosity and data-driven mindset will enable you to analyse performance, costs, and efficiencies, identify savings, and implement controls without compromising safety or productivity. Drawing on your experience, you will provide strategic advice, collaborate with senior management on long-term plans, and align operations with global best practices.

You will model safe behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk.  NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely, efficient and safe manner.

To succeed in this role, you will bring proven leadership experience in hard rock open pit mining, including managing large-scale mechanised operations and diverse teams, ideally in a developing nation. Experience with RH200 shovels, CAT 777/789 trucks, and developing local talent is highly valued. You will demonstrate deep knowledge of open pit mining, safety, and environmental management, with a collaborative leadership style sensitive to local customs. Strong communication skills and the ability to apply mining principles effectively with stakeholders, particularly within Papua New Guinea's regulatory and community context, are essential.

You will model a 'One Team' approach, providing effective leadership and development for your local team to reinforce NPL's culture and values, always promoting a safe work environment.  The position requires a high energy individual, hands-on management style and desire to continuously improve you and your team's knowledge and systems and methods of work.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea, Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
