APS Resources
is hiring on behalf of our client for a Drill & Blast Superintendent to join a world class mining project currently in its construction and pre-operational stage. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to one of the largest mining developments globally and play a critical role in building safe, efficient, and high-performance Drill & Blast operations from the ground up.

The ideal candidate will bring a solid background in open-pit drill & blast management, experience working on large scale mines (100Mt+ per annum), and strong leadership skills to oversee contractor and in house teams. Experience with autonomous drilling systems is a major advantage.

You will be responsible for planning, supervising, and optimizing drilling and blasting operations, ensuring compliance with all HSE standards, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to support smooth execution during this high impact phase.

Schedule:
FIFO 6 weeks on / 3 weeks off

Main responsibilities

  • Oversee all open-pit drilling and blasting operations, including supervision of both internal teams and contractors.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations across all Drill & Blast activities.
  • Approve drill pattern designs, manage daily schedules, and control operational costs and deviations.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings, promote a proactive safety culture, and participate in incident investigations.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, geology, and production teams to align plans and execution.
  • Manage contractor performance, ensuring high-quality work, timeliness, and safety adherence.
  • Lead and support training programs for D&B personnel and contractors.
  • Drive performance improvements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in drill & blast processes.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are in place for all core activities.
  • Prepare and submit operational reports and KPIs as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of open-pit drill & blast experience, preferably in metalliferous mines.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Autonomous drilling system (ADS) experience is a significant advantage.
  • Previous experience working on mega mining operations (>100 Mt/year) preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of mining-specific planning tools, GIS software, and MS Office.
  • Fluent English; Other language skills are a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and time management skills.
  • High stress tolerance, ability to work independently, and commitment to safety and operational excellence.
