Primary objective
Facilitate the effective flow of information and communication between the Attorney-General's Department and the Minister's office
ensuring compliance with Government protocols, administrative, legislative and record management requirements for Ministerial and
Cabinet documents.
Context statement
This role will primarily maintain the agency's statutory appointment databases and facilitate the appointments, assist with the review of
Secretariat policy, protocol and procedure documentation and will provide assistance to the Secretariat team in usual Secretariat duties
as needed.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Maintain the Statutory Appointments database for statutory office holders and statutory bodies.
2. Review and consult on existing Secretariat policy, protocol and procedures and update as needed and develop new policies and
protocols as needed.
3. Review the Secretariat content on the AGD intranet for consistency and update as needed.
4. Provide advice, assistance and training to staff in the preparation of quality Ministerial correspondence and Cabinet submissions.
5. Maintain a close working relationship with the Department's Executive, Minister's Office staff, Cabinet Office, and other
NT Government agencies with respect to corporate reporting requirements.
6. Assist in the coordination, preparation and quality assurance of Cabinet submissions and comments; Legislative Assembly briefs; and
processing of departmental replies to Ministerial correspondence and Cabinet submissions ensuring high standards are maintained.
7. Work with the Manager to identify obstacles in secretariat systems, process and competencies that may inhibit the Department in
achieving its objectives and timelines and develop practical solutions to resolve these issues.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Substantial experience in a Ministerial Liaison / secretariat area with experience and knowledge of the Parliamentary process,
Government and Legislature.
2. Excellent written communication with the ability to: proof and edit high-level correspondence and documents with excellent attention
to detail, prepare written correspondence using plain language and an active voice.
3. High level organisational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise and meet deadlines.
4. Experience in dealing with matters of a confidential and sensitive nature.
5. Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision, using initiative, enthusiasm, and as part of a small team within an area subject
to constant change.
6. Ability to learn new processes and systems quickly.
Desirable
1. An understanding of and an interest in issues of criminal justice and the structure and functions of the Attorney-General's Department.
