Systems Safety Engineer

Navantia Australia has been awarded the Designer Support Contract to provide comprehensive design and engineering support to all Navantia-designed ships in service with the Royal Australian Navy. This landmark contract marks a significant milestone for Navantia Australia, as it is the company's first contract held directly with the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA), underscoring its commitment to innovation and excellence in the maritime industry.

Due to Navantia Australia's ongoing success, we have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Safety Engineer to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. Operating under the Design Support Contractor (DSC) contract, the Systems and Safety Engineer is responsible for the development and review of systems engineering and safety engineering outputs. This includes coordinating and leading system and safety engineering activities involving the engineering team and external stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead the systems and safety engineering activities including process definition, coordination of team outputs, reviews and stakeholder engagement.
• Responsible for the development of system engineering documentation including inputs to engineering plans, requirements definition, VCRM and verification activities.
• Responsible for the development of safety engineering documentation including inputs to engineering plans, Hazard Assessments, Safety Assessments and Defence safety activities.
• Monitor and control system and safety engineering deliverables against the program schedule and report to the DSC and relevant stakeholders.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

• Bachelor's degree ‐ Engineering
• Minimum 8 Years experience in a Systems Engineering and/or Safety Engineering role.
• Experience in a Marine, Air or Land Engineering environment.
• Knowledge of Systems Engineering requirements in a Marine environment.
• Knowledge of Safety Engineering requirements in a Marine environment including relevant specifications and standards.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrently.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and Clients.
• Australian Citizenship.
